FAQ's

How do I know you won’t …well, “take my money and run”?
Unlike some local companies, Hardwicks will very rarely ask for money up front (larger commercial contracts may differ). All materials are purchased by ourselves and paid for before starting work. We only invoice you once the job is complete and satisfactory.

How do I know you are using ‘quality’ materials?
Hardwicks use only the highest quality materials from local fencing materials suppliers such as our main supplier Earnshaws Fencing Centre. Most timber is pressure treated and should be good for 15 plus years, although giving it extra treatment can only help it’s life span.

How do I pay for my fence?
Hardwicks accept cheques and cash. We do not offer any credit facilities.

Eg I live in Halifax and have seen your website, do you travel this far?
Yes! We are happy to travel all over the Yorkshire region plus further if required. For example we have worked in Norfolk, London, Chester and Woksop to name but a few.

What type of fencing work are you able to undertake?
Hardwick’s can undertake all types of fencing, decking and exterior joinery work. Our experience allows us to achieve high quality results in domestic, commercial, security and environment sectors using timber, concrete and steel.

What type of fencing would you recommend for garden?
All gardens are different; Hardwick’s always survey the area to be fenced before giving any quotes or recommendations. We will offer both practicality and cost effectiveness.

Legal Height of Fencing
The legal height of a fence within 3M (10ft) of a road edge is up to 1m (3’ 3”) in height, depending on the individual council. In most other areas anything up to 1.8M (6ft) is okay, generally 2M (6’ 6”) is the legal limit. Any solid structure over this height (fence included) requires planning permission from your local planning authority before work can start. Clients are responsible for obtaining planning permission prior to Hardwick’s carrying out the work. Should planning permission not be obtained by the client then the cost of any subsequent reduction in height is the sole responsibility of the client.

Consider the Neighbours
Before erecting any fence it is courtesy for the client to inform any neighbouring property owners of your intentions. Although we will take all reasonable steps not to pass on to their property, it may be necessary in some cases for the need to access the neighbours property depending on the situation of the job taking place.

Waste Removal
As part of our service we will remove any waste timber, trees, bushes, hedges, soil and rubble necessary and dispose of it responsibly.

Fence Line
Whilst preparing the fence line it may be necessary cut down or trim back any bushes or trees that cause obstruction. Whilst it is not our intentions to destroy plants, as we know how much hard work goes into creating a nice garden, we ask that the clients appreciate that we need adequate space to construct the fence safely and efficiently. If clients need any bushes or small trees removing we can do so at a competitive cost. Any larger trees or stumps that need removing will probably need the work of a tree surgeon. We can arrange this as part of the service with one of our contacts a qualified tree surgeon.

Access
Side access or a back gate is ideal for removing rubbish and bringing in the new materials. Where this is not available, a clear route through a garage or the house is required.

Quotation
To obtain a free quotation please contact us via telephone, email or post giving as much information as possible. Hardwick’s will always visit the site prior to giving a quotation.

Payment
In most cases we will not ask for payment up front (some larger commercial contracts may differ), all we ask is for prompt payment upon satisfactory completion. Payment can be made by cheque or cash.
